Dr. Catherine Kahabuka
Founder, CEO & Lead Consultant
Dr. Kahabuka holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine from Muhimbili University, Tanzania (2005) and a PhD in Health Systems from Bergen University, Norway (2012). She has over eight years’ experience in health systems research, particularly in the areas of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health, and HIV/AIDS. Since Jan 2013, Dr. Kahabuka has been working as a consultant for health systems research in Tanzania where she has been providing both technical and implementation support to research projects and program monitoring and evaluations activities, including at the national level. Dr. Kahabuka has strong skills and extensive experience in utilizing both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and she is as well conversant with various data management software, including SPSS, Atlas Ti & N-vivo. Dr. Kahabuka has a total of thirty-four publications (first author of six) in international journals. As the CEO & Lead Consultant, Dr. Kahabuka is responsible for providing overall leadership for all the research activities implemented under CSK in line with the organization's vision, mission, & values.
Mr. Salum Mshamu
Co-founder, Managing Director & Senior Consultant
Salum Mshamu has a BSc. in Nursing from Muhimbili University (Tanzania), a master's degree in Public Health from Lund University (Sweden) and a postgraduate diploma in Clinical trials from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He has extensive experience in coordination of research projects, particularly clinical trials, including tightly regulated vaccine and drug trials. Previously, Mr. Salum has worked extensively with programs involving youths, including having served as a project officer for an HIV/AIDS prevention resource center (ISHI Project), under UMATI and as a project manager for the National HIV/AIDS Help line, under Tanzania Youth Alliance (TAYOA). Between 2013 and 2015, while working as an assistant lecturer at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Science (MUHAS), Mr. Salum was providing both technical and implementation support to CSK activities on a part-time basis. Starting Jan 2016, Mr. Salum resigned from his teaching position and became a full-time staff at CSK Research Solutions as a senior Consultant. Currently, Mr. Salum Mshamu is responsible for leading randomized controlled and clinical trials supported by CSK.
Operations Manager and Junior Consultant
Isabella Luhanga is a graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Dar es salaam, Tanzania. She has basic training in the fields of IT, research, statistics and entrepreneurship. Isabella started working for CSK in 2014 as a part-time research assistant and later on, in 2015, became a full-time staff. Having worked closely with the lead researcher (Dr. Kahabuka) as her personal assistant, Isabellah has received strong mentorship in various research areas and she now possesses strong research skills in the areas of field planning & supervision as well as data collection and management. Isabellah is currently pursuing a Masters of Public Health (funded by CSK) as an online student at Muhimbili University, Tanzania. Before joining CSK, Isabella worked with various organizations and companies in Tanzania including; 1) Push Mobile Media Company limited (2010); 2) Tanzania Alliance People's Organization (2011), and ; 3) North Mara Gold mine, Geita Gold Mine and Mererani (2012).
Senior Research Assistant
Irene Mapunda joined CSK as a full-time staff in Jan 2019. Between 2018 and 2019, she was working with CSK as a part-time research assistant in the capacity of transcription and translation of research materials. Irene has an advanced diploma in Accountancy from the Institute of Finance Management, Tanzania. Before joining CSK, Irene worked with a variety of companies in Tanzania in the areas of sales, marketing and customer care. After joining CSK and under close tutelage and mentorship of the Lead Consultant (Dr. Catherine Kahabuka) she developed strong skills in qualitative data management, including transcription, translation, coding and analysis. Irene is currently expanding her skills in quantitative data analysis, and field planning and supervision.
Finance and Administrative Manager
Thabit Bombwe is a graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Zanzibar University, Tanzania. He has over 8 years’ experience in accounting and finance management having worked with both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in Tanzania. He started working with CSK as a part-time financial analyst in 2015 and later on (in 2017) became a full- time staff. At CSK, Mr. Bombwe is responsible for the efficient running of CSK’s finance operations, effective management of human resources, IT and administrative systems.
Mr. Makalanzi serves as a transport manager and driver at CSK. Mr. Makalanzi started working for CSK in 2014 as a part-time driver and joined CSK as a full-time staff in 2018. His main task is ensuring that all vehicles to be used for data collection activities are in a good shape and available for field activities in timely manner. Mr. Makalanzi is also responsible for managing all other drivers that support CSK’s field activities on part-time basis.
